The best thing about foil stamping is that it can be utilized to print very metallic silver and gold images, especially on dark substrates. Other metallic colors are possible as well as nonmetallic colors, and gloss and dull finishes are available. When using a flat stamp die the image is level with the paper surface or slightly intaglio. When using a combination die the image is embossed and raised up above the surface of the paper. A multilevel die can be made to actually carve the image giving a sculpted appearance.
